The new facility has the support of Governor Abbott. Texas has emphasized the value of Texas-based facilities such as the Tesla lithium refinery. Abbott commended Nueces County for its assistance in assisting Tesla in accelerating the plant’s permitting process during a speech in Corpus Christi on April 3. Amid rising tensions with China, the material’s main supplier, the governor underlined the urgent need for lithium. He voiced worries that the state’s economy and day-to-day activities may be severely impacted by any interruption in the supply of lithium from China.
