The UAE Introduces a New AI System to Take on Big Tech Companies
Due to the release of a new open-source AI model, the UAE is receiving more attention. The UAE’s standing in the global AI race is being improved by this action by a government-backed research agency. The Falcon 2 series was unveiled in Abu Dhabi by the Technology Innovation Institute (TII). While Falcon 2 11B VLM can generate text descriptions from photos, Falcon 2 11B is a text-based model. The Advanced Technology Research Council of Abu Dhabi is in charge of overseeing TII.
The UAE, a major Middle Eastern oil exporter, is making significant investments in artificial intelligence. Because of this, the United States and China are at odds over technological decisions. After the U.S., the Emirati business G42 acquired a $1.5 billion investment from Microsoft, ceased Chinese investments, and sold off Chinese equipment. The Advanced Technology Research Council’s Faisal Al Bannai emphasizes the UAE’s position in AI. The launching of the Falcon 2 series contributes to the global movement toward sophisticated language models. Some people keep their AI technologies confidential, while the UAE, like Meta’s Llama, makes its work publicly available.
Al Bannai is optimistic about the UAE’s ability to compete globally and thrilled about the Falcon 3 generation. He takes pride in their ability to quickly make strategic judgments and compete fiercely, which offers them an edge.
The ruling family of Abu Dhabi holds a huge sum of money—roughly US$1.5 trillion—that is utilized to advance technologies. Today, the UAE is a key player in the production of AI computer chips. According to the Wall Street Journal, the CEO of OpenAI met with investors, including Sheik Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to discuss investing US$7 trillion in an AI chipmaker to compete with Nvidia.
Furthermore, the UAE is demonstrating its significant support for generative AI by releasing a guide recently titled “Generative AI’ guide.” The goal of this book is to unlock AI’s potential in a variety of fields, including media, healthcare, and education. It provides a thorough examination of generative AI, addressing the benefits and problems of digital technology while emphasizing the significance of data privacy. With 100 useful AI examples for business owners, students, job seekers, and tech enthusiasts, the guide is designed to assist government agencies and the general people in utilizing AI technologies. This aggressive strategy shows the UAE’s commitment to leading and actively competing in the global AI battle, positioning it as a country to watch in the rapidly evolving IT sector.
